Oshun - Goddess of Love, Beauty & Marriage
An Orisha is a spirit that reflects one of the manifestations of God in Africa's Yoruba religion. Many Orishas have found their way throughout the Americas via the Atlantic slave trade and are now expressed in practices as varied as Santeria, Candomble, Trinidad Orisha, and Oyotunji.
Oshun is the Orisha of the fresh waters, the goddess of the river that shares her same name. She brings prosperity and fertility to her worshippers, she especially watches over the poor and the sick and is said to heal the sick with the power of water. Oshun is also the Orisha of love and is often represented as a beautiful young woman or a mermaid. With the African diaspora, Oshun was brought to Americas and adopted into the Ciban, Brazilian and Haitian religious belief systems.
